A time for pause and reflection
As I write this, we are coming to the end of the first week of June already. June is one of my favourite months. We’ve come through Winter, enjoyed Spring and now look forward to the long days and nights of summer. (Although, the weather seems to have other plans this week but that’s another story).
I like to take a week off work in June each year. Not to go away on holiday but my own staycation at home. I have said in a previous blog that home is where my heart is and I feel like the halfway point in the year is a good time to pause, reflect on the year to date and soak in the joy of spending time at home with no agenda, no rushing and no trying to fit in the things I love around a work schedule.
This year, I will be taking the week of 22nd June off to do exactly that. I am hoping for good weather but even if that doesn’t happen, then it will still be good. In fact, I am extending beyond a week this year into the start of the following week. I know I just said no schedule, but one appointment is allowed. Especially when it’s a family day out to shop for my sister’s mother of the bride outfit. That will be a fun day out and brings more of the planning for my niece’s wedding next year another step closer.
Other than that, I plan to spend time on my crochet, sewing, gardening and reading. The goal is to read at least one book in that week. I will go out to places I want to go to, like the garden centre or day trips to places I want to see but those plans aren’t in the diary to be done on a set day. The goal is to get up each day, enjoy breakfast without rushing to work and see where the day takes me. I can truly recommend it for relaxing and having a mid-year reset.
I used to travel a lot and enjoyed going away on holiday. I was never a sit by a pool or beach person so holidays were always busy sightseeing and very touristy so to have the luxury now of saying there is no other country I long to visit and take time to just relax and enjoy what I have is something I don’t take for granted. Having a dog makes that even better for me. I couldn’t leave him to go away for a week or two and he loves nothing more than all of his favourite humans in the house so it’s good for him too.
So, I am welcoming June with open arms and looking forward to my week at home at the end of the month.
